Root cutting in Kamloops sewer lines
Roots do not break into a sound pipe. They find a joint or a crack that is already leaking and grow toward the water. Cutting them is the treatment. Finding why they got in is the cure.
- Older Kamloops neighbourhoods
- Properties with mature trees
- Repeat blockage sufferers
Why mature streets have this problem
The neighbourhoods with the best trees have the oldest sewer services, and that is not a coincidence in either direction. Clay and early concrete pipe were laid in short lengths with mortared joints. Decades of ground movement open those joints a little. A root finds the moisture, gets in through the gap, and then keeps growing inside the pipe where conditions are ideal.
A mat of fine root hair inside a line catches everything that passes it. Paper, grease and solids build on it until the line stops.
Cut, flush, then look
Cutting alone gets the line running. It leaves the cut material in the pipe and it leaves the entry point exactly as it was, which is why root problems come back on a schedule.
Cut
A cutting head sized to the pipe takes the root mass back to the pipe wall.
Flush
High pressure water carries the cut material out instead of leaving it to reform a mat downstream.
Inspect
The camera shows the entry point. That tells you whether this is an annual maintenance job or a repair.
Managing it, honestly
If the joint that lets the roots in is not repaired, the roots come back. That is not a failure of the cleaning, it is the nature of the defect. The realistic choice is between a planned cut and flush on a cycle that suits the property, or a repair to the section that is letting them in.
The camera is what turns that from an opinion into a decision.
Common questions
Will chemical root killer do the same job?
Foaming root treatments can slow regrowth after a mechanical cut. They do not clear a line that is already blocked, and they do nothing about the opening that let the roots in.
How often will roots come back?
It depends on the species, the size of the opening and how much water is escaping. Once a line has been cut and inspected, the interval that suits that specific property becomes obvious.
Do I have to take the tree out?
Usually not. The problem is the opening in the pipe, not the tree. Repairing the defective section is normally the more sensible end of the trade-off.

Related work
High pressure steam flushing
A cable punches a hole through the blockage. Water at pressure takes the blockage off the wall of the pipe and carries it away. That difference is the whole reason this truck exists.
Sewer camera inspection
A camera on a push rod runs the length of the line and shows you what is actually in there. Guessing about a buried pipe is how people end up paying for the wrong repair.
Preventive sewer maintenance
Every emergency call-out is a maintenance job that was left too long. This is the calm version of the same work, booked at a time that suits the building.

Talk to the person doing the work
Call 250-377-5364 and describe what the line is doing. Most of the time that conversation settles whether this is the right service before anyone books a truck.
Emergency service call-outs available 24/7. If it is backing up right now, call rather than emailing.
