Kamloops and the Thompson Valley
Sewer line and defect locating in Kamloops
A sonde in the camera head puts a signal in the pipe. The locator finds that signal from the surface and marks where the line runs, how deep it sits, and where the problem is.

Dig once, in the right place
The expensive part of a sewer repair is rarely the pipe. It is the excavation, the reinstatement of whatever was on top of it, and the days the yard or the parking lot is open. Every metre of trench that did not need to be dug is money spent for nothing.
Locating turns a repair from a search into a task. The line is marked on the surface, the depth is called, and the defect the camera found has a position on the ground rather than a description.
When you need it
Locating is not only for repairs. It is for anyone about to disturb ground they do not have a map of.
Before excavation
A new driveway, a deck footing, a fence line, a pool. Knowing where the service runs before the machine arrives.
Before a repair quote
A contractor pricing a dig without a located defect is pricing a guess, and guesses price high.
Unmapped commercial sites
Older buildings where nobody has the drawings and the line goes somewhere nobody remembers.
Property line disputes
Establishing whether a defect sits on the private service or past the connection.
Defect locating, specifically
There is a difference between locating a line and locating a defect. The first tells you where the pipe runs. The second puts a mark directly over the crack, the offset or the root intrusion the camera stopped at.
The truck is lettered Defect / Line Locating, both, because on most jobs you need the second and the first comes with it.
Common questions
Can you locate a line with no cleanout?
Access is the first question on any locate, and it varies by property. Call and describe what you have; that conversation is quicker than any page can be.
How accurate is the depth?
A surface locate gives a working depth good enough to plan an excavation. It is a guide for the machine operator, not a survey, and any competent crew treats it that way and digs the last part carefully.
Do you do the repair as well?
A Groess Underground are the drain cleaning specialists. Locating and inspection are what tell you whether you need a repair at all, and where. TODO(intake): confirm what repair work is done in house.

Sewer camera inspection
A camera on a push rod runs the length of the line and shows you what is actually in there. Guessing about a buried pipe is how people end up paying for the wrong repair.
High pressure steam flushing
A cable punches a hole through the blockage. Water at pressure takes the blockage off the wall of the pipe and carries it away. That difference is the whole reason this truck exists.
Root cutting
Roots do not break into a sound pipe. They find a joint or a crack that is already leaking and grow toward the water. Cutting them is the treatment. Finding why they got in is the cure.
