The drain cleaning specialists

It is a dirty job and someone has to do it

The rest of that line is lettered on the truck: let it be Groess. It has been there longer than any website, and it is a fair summary of the business.

A specialist, not a general shop

Most plumbing companies will run a cable down a drain. Fewer of them own a camera, a locator and a high pressure flushing rig, and fewer still are set up to take those things out to a property in Barriere or Cache Creek on a Tuesday.

That is the whole position of this business. Steam flushing, video inspection, defect and line locating, root cutting and frozen line thawing are the jobs a general plumber refers out. Residential, commercial and industrial, as it says on the side of the truck.

Eco friendly, and specific about it

A Groess Underground describes itself as an eco friendly small business, and has been a finalist for Business Excellence Awards in both the Environmental and the Excellence in Trades categories. High pressure water cleaning is part of that: it is a mechanical process, and it does not need the line filled with chemicals to work.

The record

  • Eco friendly small business
  • Kamloops Business Excellence Awards finalist in 2023, 2024 and 2025
  • Community Futures Thompson Country success story
  • Runs an annual community cleanup in Kamloops

The community cleanup

Eleven years of picking up after Kamloops

The annual community cleanup has run for eleven years, organised by a drain company, which tells you something about how the business sees the town it works in. It is also the reason A Groess Underground turns up as a Community Futures Thompson Country success story rather than only as a line in a trades directory.

TODO(intake): the date of the next cleanup, and a few photographs from the last one. On the current site the cleanup is a countdown timer stuck at zero next to an event that has already happened. It deserves a real page that gets updated once a year.

Where to start

If something is backing up, call now. If you are buying a house, book a camera inspection during the inspection period. If a line keeps blocking no matter how many times it gets cabled, read the steam flushing page, because that is the one that explains why.

Or just call 250-377-5364 and describe it.
